Are you a caregiver? Do you give care as a profession? If you answered yes to either of these questions you know how challenging this work can be.
Some years ago I became the caregiver for my mom who had moderate stage Alzheimers. She could still eat and toliet herself but her memory was much compromised. She lived with us in our home for a time.
In this blog, I will talk about the experiences of our family as we gave care to my mom with hopes it will encourage those in the middle of this journey. I will also throw in other topics from time to time as I feel led.
Do you have questions about Caregiving? Feel free to send them and I will try to help.
The first bit of advice I would give to someone who is just beginning the caregiving journey is to take it one day at a time. The scripture that comes to to mind is Matthew 6:25-34. Here Jesus encourages us not to worry. Wow! That’s not very helpful advice in the middle of chaos. He goes on to explain why we don’t need to worry. Our Heavenly Father knows that we need, food, and clothing and everything eles that concerns us. He made the colorful flowers and clothed them with vivid colors and vibrant hues. He went to so much trouble to design and care for the flowers that only have a short growing season, are we not much more important to Him then they?
He ends this passage by saying in verse 34, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow , for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of it’s own.
God will give you grace for each day. That’s his promise. When you awake claim God’s strenght for that day and trust Him moment by moment until that day is done. Then start again the next day. More in my next blog.
God bless you with His strenght for today!
